ARGENTUM NITRICUM (It is a chemical compound of silver and nitric acid).

Silver nitrate, AgNO₃ Lunar caustic.

It is a chemical compound of silver and nitric acid. It can be obtained from a chemist’s shop.

The salt is triturated with sugar of milk up to 3 C Higher  alcoholic potencies are prepared from 3 C potency.

Proved by Dr. Hahnemann and re-proved by Dr. J.O. Muller of Vienna in 1845.

It is both Anti-psoric and Anti-sycotic remedy. It is a medium, long and deep acting remedy. It is useful in both acute and chronic disease.

It is a constitutional remedy for the following types of patients:

1.  Who are anxious, suffer from anxiety neurosis, are easily excited from emotions, suspense, anticipation, diarrhea, from anticipation going to any exciting place, when ready for church or opera, breaks out often in a sweat from anxiety.

2.  Neuraesthenic : metal exertion aggravates; brain fag; headache from mental exertion.

3.  Fearful : from being alone, desires company; frightened easily; Dreads a crowd.

4.  Impulsive : wants to do things in a hurry; time passes slowly.

5.  Nervous : does not undertake any thing lest he should not succeed; tremulous nervousness so long the thing is not done.

6.  Who is excitable, angered easily; strange notions and ideas; does foolish things. Strange impulses, thoughts and fears.

7.  Who are sad and melancholic.

8.  Who are confused and have defective memory.

9.  Who are warm blooded; want cold, open air, cold drinks, cold food; suffocates in warm clothing’s, ill ventilated or closed rooms; feels suffocated if other people are in the room. Craves wind blowing on his face, bathing with cold water, open air.

10. Chilly when uncovered, yet feels smothered if wrapped up.

11. Scrawry, feeble dried-up-looking women.

12. A child looks like an old man.

It is a specific remedy for the following conditions:

1.  Ailments from long continued mental exertion.

2.  Eye strain from sewing; diseases due to defective accommodation in warm blooded persons.

3.  Diarrhea : after drinking; after eating candy or sugar; with much noisy flatus; green mucus in stools; as soon as he drinks.

4.  Emaciation : progressive; most marked in lower extremities; drink-up, old looking patients; marasmus.

5.  Headache : congestive with frullness and heaviness; from mental exertion; from dancing; hemicrania, ending in bilious vomiting; agg from mental labor; amel by pressure or tight bandage.

6.  Acute granular conjunctivitis; scarlet red like raw beef; discharge profuse muco-purulent; ophthalmia neonatorum.

7.  Gastric complaints with belching and flatulence.

8.  Impotence; erection fails when coition is attempted.

9.  Great weakness of lower extremities, with trembling, cannot walk with eyes closed; locomotor ataxia.

10. Chronic laryngitis of singers; the high notes cause cough.

11. Sore throat; with sensation as if sticks in the throat when swallowing.

12. Gonorrhea : painful erections; orchitis or ovaritis from suppressions of discharge.

13. Ulcerations, warts, Condi Loma, dropsy, hemorrhages with characteristic symptoms of Arg n.

Dosage : Lower aquous dilutions as local application in ophthalmia neonatorum. In gastric ulcer freshly prepared 1% solution of silver nitrate should be given in a half glass of hot water before meals (Underwood). Clarke uses lower potencies, but Kent advicees higher and highest potencies.

Repetition : It may be repeated when the symptoms call for it.

Duration of action : 30 days.

ARGENTUM METALLICUM ( Pure silver )

Silver Metal, Pure silver. Pure silver can be obtained from the market. It is a metal found in mines in many parts of world. Silver leaf is triturated with sugar of milk to prepared in the usual way.

Proved by Dr. Hahnemann 1813.

It is deep and long acting remedy. It is an Anti-psoric and Anti-sycotic remedy.

It is a constitutional remedy for the ailments of patients:

1. Who are very anxious and apprehensive about their health.

2. Indisposed to talk in society due to incompetence.

3. Imbecility from disorders of intellect and memory.

4. Who are tall, thin and irritable.

5. Who are nervous and of broken down constitution; suffer from loss of muscular power and trembling.

6. Constitutional effects of onanism.

7. Who are chilly, want to be kept warm; pains are better from warmth.

It is a specific remedy for the following conditions:

1. Ailments from anger, fear, fright, onanism and abuse of mercury.

2. Hoarseness of professional singers, public speakers; worse from talking, singing, reading aloud. Total loss of voice. Alternation in timber of voice. Raw spot over bifurcation of trachea.

3. Exhausting fluent coryza with sneezing.

4. Cough with easy expectoration o a grey viscid mucous looking like boiled starch. Laughing excites cough. When reading has to hem and hawk.

5. Atrophy of penis from onanism and emissions; impotency from lack of erection.

6. Right sided headaches better from tight bandaging.

7. Chronic gonorrhocal orchitis; yellow greenish urethral discharge in gonorrhoea.

8. Crushed pain in the testicles. Affinity for the right testicle.

9. Cervical erosion or ulcers; uterine cancer. Prolapse with pain in left ovary.

10. Ovarian cysts and tumours; affinity for left ovary.

11. Affections of mucous membranes, of nose, throat, larynx, eye lids, ears, Eustachian tubes; bones cartilages, joints; genitor-urinary tract and nervous system for which silver has special affinity.

12. Albuminuria, diabetes and enuresis.

13. Ailments with thickenings, in filtrations, indurations cysts, tumours, ulcerations and epithelioma.

14. Rheumatic complaints from cold damp weather.

Dosage : 6^th to higher potencies.

Repetition : Should not be repeated frequently as it is a deep acting remedy.

Duration of action : 15 to 30 days.

APOCYNUM CANNABINUM (American Hemp)

APOCYNUM CANNABINUM

Spreading dogbane, American Hemp.

It is a plant belonging to the natural order of Apocynaceae.

It grows in most parts of the US and Canada.

Mother tincture is prepared from the root and higher potencies from the mother tincture.

Proved by Dr. Black of England, Dr. Henry of U.S.A and Dr. Marcy.

It is a constitutional remedy for patients:

1. Who are chilly, sensitive to cold air and drinks, vomits cold drinks; aggravated from cold, wants to be covered.

2. Who cannot sweat, skin is dry; urine is scanty; all secretions are diminished; there is no out throw of water; the constitution takes in water but lets out none. Who do not assimilate water hence must vomit because it is superfluous.

3. Who are thirsty, great thirst for cold water, but cold does not agree, it is vomited before it gets warm in the stomach, he is ameliorated from the drinks.

4. Who are worse from lying down, must sit up especially in case of hydrothorax.

It is a specific remedy for the following conditions:

1. Dropsy of serous membranes; with thirst; after scarlet fever, typhoid, typhus, cirrhosis of liver; abuse of quinine; dropsy of pericardium, thorax, peritoneum, extremities genital organs.

2. Acute hydrocephalus, with open sutures; stupor, one sight lost; constant and involuntary motion of one arm and one leg; forehead projected.

3. Amenorrhoea in young girls, with dropsical condition of abdomen and extremities.

4. Metrorrhagia: continued or paroxysmal flow; fluid or clotted; nausea, vomiting, palpitation; pulse quick and feeble when moved.

5. Diarrhea alternative with dropsy. Dropsical condition relieved by diarrhea.

6. Paralysis of extremities with urging to urinate; numbness and tingling in the extremities and finally entire loss of power.

7. Cough short and dry or deep and loose, during pregnancy.

8. Retention with great urging; scanty urine with scanty sweat, Enuresis. Urinary troubles are exceedingly troublesome.

9. Ailments from impaired functions of skin, kidneys, bowels, uterus and all tend to dropsy.

10. Brain affection with anuria.

11. Heart weak, feeble and irregular, usually slow, urine scanty, great thirst but drinking cold water disagrees, causes nausea, vomiting; stomach irritable to food; great distention after eating; loose stool.

12. Vital depression, fainting when raising head from pillow.

Dosage : Tincture 3 to 10 drops 3 times daily for dropsy. One drachm of decoction in 40oz of water for acute alcoholism.

Repetition : Bear repetition well.

Duration of action : Short acting.

APIS MELLIFICA (Honey bee poison)

Apium Virus, Honey bee poison.

The whole honey bee, or the drop of poison secreted from point of the sting.

The honey bee is found all over the world.

The live bees are put into a bottle and irritated by shaking, dilute alcohol is poured five times their weight and kept closed for eight days; shaking the bottle twice a day. The tincture is than poured off, strained and filtered, which represents the mother tincture.

The mother tincture may be prepared from a drop of the poison secreted by the bee if the bee is held in a forceps and the drop of poison poured in a tube or watch glass.

Proved by Dr. Frederick Humphries in 1852.

It is a sarcoid being prepared from animal products.

It is a constitutional remedy for the following types of patients:

1. Who are warm blooded; worse in warm and closed room.

2. Children, girls and women, who though generally careful become awkward and let things fall while handling them.

3. Irritable, nervous, fidgety persons hard to please.

4. Who have a weeping disposition; cannot help crying; discouraged and despondent.

5. Who are extremely sensitive to touch.

6. Who are worse after sleeping, touch and pressure, heat of bed and at 3 p.m. and better from sitting erect, changing position, walking, uncovering and cold bathing.

7. Jealous persons, women especially widows.

8. Persons who are apathetic, are absent minded, cannot concentrate; are listless, fault finding, joyless, suspicious or indolent.

9. Sad and melancholic.

10.             Foolish persons.

It is a specific remedy for the following conditions:

1. Ailments from jealousy, fright, rage, vexation, bad news, mental stock.

2. Bad effects of acute exanthema imperfectly developed or suppressed; measles, scarlatina, urticaria. Suppressed eruptions.

3. Oedema: pitting on pressure; marked under the eyes; of hands and feet; dropsy without thirst.

4. Pain: burning, stinging, sore; suddenly migrating from one part to other.

5. Diarrhoea: in eruptive diseases especially if eruption be suppressed; of drunkards; involuntary from every motion; with anus wide open.

6. Albuminuria after scarlatina when Canth, Dig, and Helleborus have failed.

7. Meninggitis with sudden shrill piercing screams, rolling of head from side to side; opisthotonos, or head drawn back, gnashing of teeth.

8. Chemosis of conjunctiva with sharp pains.

9. Right sided trouble: right sided ovarian cyst, hydrocele.

10.             Synovitis with burning, sore, stinging pains; worse from warm applications.

11.             Sore throat with constrictive sensation.

12.             Intermittent fevers; chill at 3 p.m., chill with thirst; feels worse in a warm room.

13.             Menstrual troubles in women with constitutional or characteristic symptoms of Apis.

14.             Scirrhus or open cancer with enlarged indurated glands with characteristic and constitutional symptoms of Apis.

Dosage : 6 to 200 C.

Duration of action : Uncertain.

Repetition : Bears repetition well in low potencies.

ANTIMONIUM CRUDUM

Sulphide of Antimony, Black Antimony, Subnite, Antimonium nigrum pruificatum.

It is chemical compound of Antimony and Sulphur, Greyish crystalline powder is obtainded by purification of native antimony sulphide.

Antimony-Sulphide is found in crude from as a mineral in some parts of Italy, and other parts of Europe.

Triturations of Anatomy-Sulphide are prepared with sugar of milk.

Proved by Cospari, one of the fellow of Hahnemann and Hahnemann in 1828.

It is a constitutional remedy for the following types of patients:

1. Children: who are freful, peevish, cannot bear to be touched or looked at.

2. Suiky children who do not wish to speak or be spoken to; angry at every little attention.

3. Who have loathing for life with lingering fevers.

4. Who suffer from melancholia with great sadness and weeping; slightest thing affects her; abject despair, suicide by drowning.

5. Who have irresistible desire to talk in rhymes or repeat verses.

6. Who have sentimental mood in the moonlight, especially ecstatic love.

7. Who have longing for acids and pickles.

8. Gouty persons who are worse from sour wine; cold damp weather; cold bathing; river bathing; from stimulants of any kind; better from lying down and applied heat; but much worse from over heating; with troublesome hemorrhoids.

9. Hysterical girls who suffer from unrequired affections; dreamers.

10. Who are allergic to bread, fats, pastry, sour wine, acids, sweets.

11. Who are averse to cold bath.

It is a specific remedy in the following conditions:

1. Headache : after river bathing; from talking cold, alcoholic drinks; deranged digestion, acids, fat, fruits; suppressed eruptions.

2. Gastric and intestinal affections; from bread, pastry acids, vinegar, cold bathing; over heating; hot weather.

3. Large horny corns on soles of feet; very sensitive when walking.

4. Aphonia from becoming overheated.

5. Ailments from sunburn; overheating; warm weather.

6. Diarrhea from sour wine.

7. Callosity from pressure on feet from pressure of shoes.

8. Ailments with milky white coating on the tongue.

9. Changeable symptoms; gouty symptoms on extremities suddenly stop followed by gastric symptoms; symptoms go from one side to other; they change locality.

10. Suppressed menses from cold bath.

Dosage : Lower potencies from 6^th to 112^th advised in syphilitic affections. Higher potencies from 30 to 200 advised in gastro-intestinal and mental characteristic symptoms.

Repetition : To be given in single dose and not repeated unless required, when constitutional symptoms call for it. To be repeated in syphilitic affections in lower potencies.

Duration of action : 4 weeks.

ANTHRACINUM (Anthrax Poison )

Anthrax Poison is a nosode, from the spleen of the infected sheep from anthrax bacillus. The mother tincture is prepared from an alcoholic extract of the anthrax poison from from the spleen of infected sheep.

Proved by Dr. Lux.

It is a specific remedy for the following conditions:

1. Succession of boils or carbuncles.

2. Gangrenous ulcers, Carbuncles, Whitlows with horrible burning pains; with black or blue discoloration; with sloughing and discharged of ichorous offensive pus.

3. Dissecting wounds with a tendency to become gangrenous, with specific fever.

4. Suspicious insect-bites with enlargement of lymphatic glands.

5. Septic fever with fainting, prostration, sinking pulse and delirium.

6. When Ars a or the best selected remedy fails to relieve the burning pain of carbuncle or malignant ulceration.

7. Hemorrhages; black thick tar like blood, rapidly decomposing.

8. It is one of the leading remedies for plague.

Dosage : 30 C to 200 C.

Repetition : Bars repetition well.

ANACARDIUM ORIENTALE

ANACARDIUM ORIENTALE

It is a constitutional remedy for the following types of patients:

·       Persons full of hatred; disposed to be malicious; seems to be swear.

·       Persons with absence of all moral restraints.

·       Persons with strange temper; laughs at serious matters and serious over laughable things.

·       Persons who are clairaudient, hear voices from far away or of the dead persons, suffer from hallucinations.

·       Persons of changeable personality.

·       Want of confidence in himself and others.

It is a specific remedy in the following conditions:

·       Mental disorders : schizophrenia; paranoia, mania, melancholia with its guiding symptoms; having two wills, one urging him to do what the other forbids; irresistible desire to curse and swear with illusion, delusions, hallucinations; sudden loss of memory.

·       Hypochondria sis : with hemorrhoids and constipation.

·       Headache : relieved entirely when eating.

·       Fright before examination; nervous exhaustion from over studies.

·       Warts on palms of hands.

Dosage : 6^th to 200^th potency.

Repetition : 30^th potency is repeated daily for several weeks in internal piles.

Duration of action : Acts over 30 – 40 days.
